The inside and outside of a bearing are distinguished by measuring the position of the raceway groove. Conventionally, this measurement has been performed visually and with image processing, but the dimensional difference is so small that erroneous judgements were sometimes made. Because the TM-3000 Series is factory calibrated and traceable to national standards, it is possible to accurately measure inside and outside surfaces to sub-micron accuracy. It is also equipped with a dual-telecentric lens system that allows accurate measurements despite shifts in part presentation. The fixed optics and LED based technology eliminates the need for costly continuous calibration.
