*1 Virtual development environments using Virtual PC are not supported in Windows 8/8.1/10/Server 2012/2012 R2/2016.
*2 This is required for running applications on the PC.
*3 This is required when creating terminal applications.
*4 This is required when performing simulation debugging on the PC.
*5 Operation on Windows 8/8.1/10/Server 2012/2012 R2/2016 has been verified solely by us, although Microsoft states that operation is not supported.
To be extra sure, perform development in Windows7 or an earlier OS.

Must I prepare any other tools when developing built-in applications?

The following tools are required for developing built-in applications:

  1. Visual Studio 2008 Professional Edition
  2. ActiveSync (for file transfer)
  3. Virtual PC (for PC simulator)
  • * Note that built-in applications cannot be developed using Visual Studio 2005 or 2010, 2012, 2013, Visual Studio 2008 Standard Edition or Express Edition.
Visual Studio 2008 Professional Edition is no longer on sale. Is there any way that I can obtain it?

In order to obtain Visual Studio 2008 Professional Edition, you have to purchase a new version of Visual Studio Professional standard subscription, and then download the old version of Visual Studio from the Microsoft website (from the subscriber downloads).

Is it possible to perform wireless debugging while developing applications in Visual Studio?

See "8.1 Procedure for Using TCP/IP to Perform Debugging with an Actual Machine" in the Getting Started Guide.

When is it necessary to purchase the BT-WHD1 (SDK)?

This is necessary if (1) you are using Visual Studio 2008 Pro to develop embedded applications or (2) you are performing device control of the handy terminal.
