Background: |
A producer of stand-alone terminals (Kiosk style machines, Vending, ATM) was looking for a way to extend the running life of their machines. This customer has used KEYENCE for years but only benefited from one KEYENCE solution at this location.
With additional consulting we found a unique application that would offer a big benefit to them in terms of cost savings and efficiencies.

The Problem: |
Stand-alone style terminals have touch screen panels that act as the interface between the customer and the machine.
They needed a way to alert the Kiosk when a customer approached the machine. This would enable the machine to “shut down” during periods of inactivity. This shutdown would have numerous cost savings through the life of the machine.

The Solution: |
To address the need, KEYENCE offered a PZ-M71 as it has great range and it's a distance based method of detection. Unlike typical intensity sensors, this unique Keyence model is not dependent on what the patron is wearing (white, black, etc) thus can stably and repeatedly perform.
Also, the PZ-M71 is infrared so the patron is not distracted with its sensing method.

The Results: |
KEYENCE consultation on this need lent itself to a great machine improvement. This has allowed the customer to reduce their maintenance and operating costs by producing more efficient machines that will operate for longer periods of time in the field.
This simple, cost effective, improvement has populated thousands of existing terminals in the field to offer longevity and improved performance for their users
